With Super just now killing it's biggest (both literally and figuratively) antagonist, everybody is in a huge mindset of hype and joy. I can't deny this, as I think Trunks killing Zamasu was amazing. However, I can't help but notice a LOT of similarities between Super and GT. As well as Z. Even though I prefer Super to GT, and Z to Super, I can't help but notice these things. I shall share them with you, and make a video of it next week for you guys. But here it is in writing.
All of the Sagas are very similar. Although Super is still going, the four main arcs are still similar to GT and Z itself. Yes, it's hard to build off of Akira Toriyama's biggest hit anime, if not, THE biggest hit anime ever, and I understand that. I just find it humorous. Let me explain why the Sagas are similar.
First, the Saiyan Arc, BoG Arc, and the Black Star Dragon Balls Arc. These Arcs explain and show things that have theoretically existed in the Dragon Ball universe since the beginning of its creation. Since Goku was a Saiyan, Beerus and the Gods have existed since ever, and the Dragon Balls have existed before Dragon Ball happened in GT. Also, Goku doesn't beat the main antagonist. (If you consider the main antagonist of the Black Star Dragon Ball Arc to be the Black Star Dragon Balls)
Second, the Frieza/Namek Arc, RoF Arc, and the Baby Vegeta Arc. These Arcs introduce a villain that has an INTENSE hatred for the Saiyans. These villains are Frieza for Z and Super, and the Tuffle Baby for GT. There is a new Saiyan Transformation introduced in these arcs, all used by Goku. He uses SSJ against Frieza in Z, SSJGSSJ against Frieza in Super, and SSJ4 against Baby Vegeta. Hell, Vegeta and Piccolo even DIE in each arc. (He gets taken over by Baby in GT, but he essentially stops existing and is a different being, and Piccolo is CRITICALLY injured in Z). Even a planet is destroyed. GOKU EVEN DEFEATS THE ENEMY WITH A KAMEHAMEHA FOR GOODNESS SAKE! I feel these arcs are the most similar to each other, with the last arcs as well.
Third, the Android Arc, Universe 6 Arc, and the Super 17 Arc. These arcs are by far the least similar, but there are still likenesses shared through these three. One, the main antagonists cannot be sensed by normal means. (Barring Cell for the Android Arc) Two, there's a tournament, in which Goku does not win. Three, the main villain is defeated with the help of two other people. Cell was defeated by Gohan helped by Goku and Vegeta, Hit was "defeated" by Monaka with the help of Vegeta and Goku, and Super 17 was defeated by Goku with the help of 18 and 17. There's even a robot in each Arc. (Magetta, 16, and 17)
Lastly, the Buu Arc, Goku Black Arc, and the Shadow Dragons Arc. These arcs have an evil side to a "protagonist" (Buu not really being an protagonist at this point in the show), the Dragon Balls are rendered obsolete, there's a Fusion between Goku and Vegeta that doesn't last long enough to defeat the enemy, and the main antagonist is a Fusion at one point or another. There's also multiple antagonists for each arc, and the main antagonist is defeated by a Spirit Bomb (Well, Spirit "sword" in Trunks's case). Also, an unexpected character is able to use a SSJ form that was used by Goku. (Goku Black being SSJ Rose, although it's essentially just SSJGSSJ) Hell, Trunks also fights the main enemy in each arc. (All versions of Trunks. So, generic Trunks) THE MAIN FRICKEN ANTAGONIST IS ALSO HINDERED BY ANOTHER CHARACTER WI7HIN THEIR BODY! Kid Buu is hindered by Fat Buu, Fusion Zamasu is hindered by Goku Black, and Omega Shenron is hindered by Nuova Shenron. The Earth even becomes ravaged in each arc.
Do I think this makes GT and Super bad? No. I know Super is still continuing, removing the main similarities between all three of them and itself. I also know I was just nitpicking, but you can't ignore these similarities. I just hope I enlightened you. Because I found these just wonderful.
